About us

Sweet by Nurture (previously known as Claudia’s Kitchen) started as a mother-daughter project by home cook, Claudia Alexander and her daughter, potter and photographer Lucy Alexander.

Claudia says…

“Cooking has been a big part of my life for decades. I learned to cook in the early 1980’s, the era of The Silver Palette cookbook, and the beginning of the Chez Panisse Restaurant. Creating meals isn’t work to me, it is an exploration of possibilities and combinations. As a person who thinks about what to make for dinner when I get up in the morning, I am always looking for something new to cook. The idea behind this website is to share my favorites with you . Experience the smell, taste, sound and feel of the food as you discover these dishes too!

All of us have memories of food tied to events in our lives and I have included some stories along with some of the recipes. My daughter Lucy and I have been cooking together since she was little. We started this blog with weekly emails on her website (see below, and I am now featured in The Marin Independent Journal in the Zest section on the first Wednesday of each month (under the name ‘Claudia’s Kitchen’).

Lucy is a talented potter and food photographer. The early photographs are hers, but I have taken that over since she became the owner of the Mill Valley Pottery Studio . Some of the platters, plates, bowls, and mugs in the photographs are custom pieces she created. For more information about Lucy and her work, visit her website:
